Eight-Day Afro Future Festival 2024

DAY 2: 28TH DECEMBER 2023: FULL-DAY ACCRA CITY TOUR & AFRO FUTURE FEST FIRST EVENT

Breakfast at your hotel. Your guide and driver will pick you up for an exploration of the capital city of Ghana. Places to see today include W.E.B Dubois Centre, the infamous Black Star Square where picture lovers will have the opportunity to take fascinating pictures, Kwame Nkrumah Park which houses the final remains of the first president of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and the Arts Centre where you will find authentic Ghanaian beads, fabrics, arts and crafts and Kente.

Our final visit will be to James town also known as old Accra. James Town is one of the oldest settlements in Ghana. It is most noted for its lighthouse. It was first built by the British in 1871, three years before they established the Gold Coast colony.

Return to your hotel to freshen up and get ready for Afro Future Festival's first-night event.

DAY 3: ACCRA – ASENEMA WATER FALLS – ACCRA & AFRO FUTURE SECOND EVENT

Breakfast at your hotel. Depart Accra in the morning to visit Asenema Waterfalls located in the Eastern region of Ghana. The water fall is a marvel nestled in the heart of Ghana. With its powerful and enchanting display of cascading water, the Asenema waterfalls is a natural wonder that is sure to leave visitors spell bound. You will spend most of our time here in a picnic style.

Return to Accra in time to get ready for our second night of Afro Future festival.

DAY 4: 30TH DECEMBER 2023: ACCRA –KUMASI

We leave Accra in the morning after having a good night’s rest from the previous night’s event to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti region. On arrival, you will visit the Manhyia Palace Museum built in 1925 by the British to receive Asantehene (ruler of the Ashanti people) Prempeh I when he returned from exile in the Seychelles to resume residence in Kumasi.

Visit the Kumasi Central Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa and our final site visit for the day will be the National Cultural Center which is home to Prempeh II Jubilee Museum. This museum was named after the former Asantehene, Nana Osei Agyeman Prempreh II. Exhibits include a replica of the famed Golden Stool, which is believed to have descended from the sky and is the spiritual symbol of unity for the Ashanti people.

DAY 5: 31ST DECEMBER 2023: KUMASI

This day will be dedicated to the exploration of the Ashanti craft villages. Visits will start with the woodcarving village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks, and fertility dolls from wood. You will have the opportunity to purchase varied hand-carved items.

Next will be the village of Ntonso where artisans hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles. Black-on-black and black-on-red Adinkra cloth is worn for funerals and other solemn occasions. You will learn how the black dye is made in the village from the bark of trees, and create your own Adinkra sash to take home. 

The last village visit for the day is Adanwomase, where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. You will see the Kente weavers in the process of creating Kenta cloth in various styles, and have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs or gifts. Depending on the day and time of the visit, you may have the opportunity to visit the chief’s palace and have an audience with him.

DAY 6: 1ST JANUARY 2024: KUMASI – ASSIN MANSO - CAPE COAST

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, you will check out of your hotel for a drive to Cape Coast, the capital of the Central region with a stop at Assin Manso, which served as the burial site of two former slaves from the U. S. and Jamaica during the trans-Atlantic slave trade era. Their remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day Celebration. You will see the “Slave River” where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean

Arrive in Elmina and visit the Elmina Castle. The Castle was built in 1482, and is said to be the oldest European built structure outside of Europe, and is also known as St Georges Castle. The castle was used during the Anglo Dutch War of 1664-1666 by Admiral de Ruyter, commander of the Dutch fleet. The harbor next to Elmina Castle has numerous pirogues preparing to go to sea and offers one of West Africa’s greatest photo opportunities. Elmina Castle is a UNESCO World 

Heritage site.

This evening go on a guided tour through the ancient town of Elmina and join in any new year’s activities.

DAY 7: 2ND JANUARY 2024: CAPE COAST – KAKUM PARK - CAPE COAST

After breakfast, we will take an early morning tour to the Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor; see birds and butterflies and perhaps catch a glimpse of the forests over 40 species of mammals including monkeys and the reclusive forest elephant. Kakum is famous for Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000-foot long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground.

Lunch in a local restaurant at client’s own expense.

Dress in all white garments, you will have a naming ceremony after laying wreath in the Elmina Castle to take on Ghanaian names which comes with certificates. The ceremony will be done by a chief.

DAY 8: 3RD JANUARY 2024: CAPE COAST – ACCRA – TRANSFER

Morning relaxation at the Beach.

Transfer from Cape Coast to Accra via the West Hills mall. Depending on your flight time, you have the opportunity to do some shopping before you are transferred to the airport for your flight back home with beautiful memories of Ghana.
